Are you ready? L’Arc~en~Ciel 2011

The spread below featuring L’Arc~en~Ciel’s historic concert at Le Zenith in Paris would have been truly epic if not for the small caption announcing that band activities will be on hold until 2011. That was almost 3 years ago and in a few months time, 2011 will be upon us. Although no official announcement has been made so far about the band’s post-hiatus activities, fans no doubt are in heavy anticipation.

One thing’s definite though, L’Arc~en~Ciel truly made the most out of their time apart.

Band leader tetsu changed his monicker to TETSUYA and has released two singles this year: Roulette in May and Looking for Light this August. Ken, on the other hand, recently launched his mini-album The Party after his first solo album In Physical released last year. yukihiro (who is regrettably starting to look like someone plucked from Plants vs. Zombies) revived Acid Android and unleashed 13:day:dream last July.

Arguably having the most successful solo venture is hyde. He formalized his tandem with frequent collaborator K.A.Z and formed the band VAMPS. They have since released two albums, toured the US and are currently in preparation for a world tour. Early this year, VAMPS was awarded with the “Billboard Japan Ranking International 2009” for their triumphant series of concerts in the US.

More than merely flourishing their solo projects may be, the boys are in their best element  when they are together as L’Arc~en~Ciel (at least to me). Hence, expectations are really high for their return. After all, it’s in celebration of 20 glorious years of brandishing their own brand of rock and roll.
